save files to floppy drive

Post by David Le » Thu, 27 Mar 2003 20:14:13

Does anyone know how to save files to a floppy?  I have a ultrsparc 5,
running solaris 8 and Iam trying both the command line and from file manager
to save a file to my floppy but getting error either permission denied or
can't not create Read File system only.
I changed the permission on /floppy to 777 before executing this from the
command line.
% cp filename /floppy/unnamed_floppy/filename
Error: permission denied
Then from filemgr, I tried drag and drop a file from my directory to floppy0
which is a link to /floppy/unnamed_floppy
Getting this error:  Can't not create Read file system
Would someone give me some direction on this?
Thanks

Thanks, but that's not it.

save files to floppy drive

I'm an absolute newbie with Solaris, but...

how about mounting the floppy file system before trying to copy, and
umounting it afterward?

in linux: mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

haven't used the floppy drive on my Solaris system yet.  I may be way
off base.
Good luck.

1. Saving and inputting floppy drive files to Word Perfect

Extreme newbe. After months managed to install Openlinux (Caldrea) on 486.
Word Perfect 8 part of the installation. But, can't the WP to access or
save files to the floppy. Both floppy and Wordperfect seem to be installed
properly. The problem is me. Wether I try to go from a floppy file to WP8
or from WP8 to a floppy I get a strange window (at least to a MS win95
user)that asks for data that I don't have the slightest idea what it is.
Any help would be appreciated, particularly if it's simple enough for me
to understand. Thanks
