What happened to Solaris 2.6 sysdef

What happened to Solaris 2.6 sysdef

Post by Keith Hog » Fri, 21 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Under Solaris 2.5.1 when I run sysdef I get the following Process
Resource Limits

   5.5.1  release (REL)
hostname  node name (NODE)
   SunOS  system name (SYS)
Generic_103640-06  version (VER)
*
* Process Resource Limit Tunables (Current:Maximum)
*
Infinity:Infinity       cpu time
Infinity:Infinity       file size
7ffff000:7ffff000       heap size
  800000:7ffff000       stack size
Infinity:Infinity       core file size
      40:     400       file descriptors
Infinity:Infinity       mapped memory
*
* Streams Tunables

When I run it under Solaris 2.6 I get this:

*
* Utsname Tunables
*
     5.6  release (REL)
hostname  node name (NODE)
   SunOS  system name (SYS)
 Generic  version (VER)
*
* Process Resource Limit Tunables (Current:Maximum)
*
ffffffff:fffffffd       cpu time
ffffffff:fffffffd       file size
ffffffff:fffffffd       heap size
ffffffff:fffffffd       stack size
       0:7ffff000       core file size
ffffffff:fffffffd       file descriptors
       0:  800000       mapped memory
*
* Streams Tunables

I was primarily looking at the 40:400 limits on file descriptors but
I'm not sure what the ffffffff:fffffffd  means under 2.6.

 Thanks,

1. Solaris 2.6 sysdef (vs. 2.5[.1])

Under Solaris 2.6, the "Process Resource Limit Tunables" listed
in the result of sysdef seem to have changed format.  These are
either very large, or negative, hex values now.  In Solaris 2.5.1,
the values were either "normal" numbers or "Infinity".

How are lines like:

*
* Process Resource Limit Tunables (Current:Maximum)
*
ffffffff:fffffffd       cpu time
ffffffff:fffffffd       file size
ffffffff:fffffffd       heap size
ffffffff:fffffffd       stack size
       0:7ffff000       core file size
ffffffff:fffffffd       file descriptors
       0:  800000       mapped memory

to be interpreted?

Thanks...
