Solstice Backup 5.1: can't do level or incremental backups

Post by ostwa.. » Sun, 09 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I am only able to do full backups using Solstice
Backup 5.1.  I have a single weekly backup
schedule, which is:

Sunday,Monday: skip
Tuesday-Friday: level 1
Saturday: Full

I am backing up 7 clients to a single server.
The times on all the clients are synchronized
with the server.  The backup pool is set up to
specifically allow (through nwadmin) full, level1-
3, incr, and manual backups.

All the indexes for each client look fine.

Has anyone out there experienced a similar
problem?

Was incremental backup ever working? If it was working has anything
changed since then?

The only thing I am aware of is that Solstice is very sensitive to
almost anything. My backup scheme is very similar to yours, other than
the fact that I do not skip on Sundays and Mondays. The only advice I
can think of is remove the skip on Sundays and Saturdays. Since its
incremental, it is not too much of a problem, since only files that have
changed get backed up.

good luck (btw all Solstice users need it, when things go awry)

Try to change level 1 to incr in nwadmin. That is how we have it set
up and it works... most of the time...

Not this particular one but I think that Solstice Backup is a little
bit, should we say, picky and unintuitive at times ;)

We will ditch it as soon as the homebrew software to the new
tapelibrary is finished...

1. Solstice Backup 5.1 / DMO 2.1/Oracle 8.1.5: Tape backup failed : Need of 5.5 Upgrade ?

Hi,

we have the following installation:

Backup Server with

Solaris 2.5.1
Solstice Backup  Server 5.1

Backup client with

Solaris 2.6
Solstice backup Client 5.1

DMO (Database modules for Oracle) 2.1 with the last Patches, which
should give the possibility of scheduled backups

Oracle 8.1.5

Our Problem is:

we cant make a tape-backup with allocate ...'sbt_tape'  startet over
rman. backups to disk are running fine.

Starting a backup over nwadmin we get an error, because there is no
given a user.

Has anybody made a tape-backup from rman or nwadmin, without upgrading
to Solstice Backup 5.5?

TIA,

Nele
