event log viewer

Is there an X or Openwindows equivilent to the NT Event Viewer?
This event viewer is a graphical interfcae to both system and application event
logs.  Event messages are logged by applications as system service calls, and the
message include an event id, a severity code, the logging process, etc.  NT
stores text messages for each event ID in a message file, and references this to
create text message in the event log.  Paramters may also be passed to the event
message to fill in values of variables into the event message, for example.

Does such a thing exist in Solaris, or as public domain software?

Thanks
