lockd error message in /var/adm/messages

Post by Jeff » Thu, 21 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I have recently been getting the following messages in the
/var/adm/messages file:

Dec 19 08:32:25 kcu100 lockd[208]: fcntl: error Invalid argument
Dec 19 08:32:25 kcu100 lockd[208]: lockd: unable to set a lock.
Dec 19 08:32:25 kcu100 lockd[208]: fcntl: error Invalid argument
Dec 19 08:32:25 kcu100 lockd[208]: lockd: unable to set a lock.

The system is a SPARCserver 1000 with 6 cpus and about 40GB of disk
(mirrored using OnLine:DiskSuite 2.0).  The O/S is Solaris 2.3 (Yeah,
I know, I should upgrade, but you tell 500 users that their server is
gonna be down...all flames will be promptly mv'd to /dev/null!).  I
suspect it has to do with one of the filesystems being NFS shared to
over 500 PC Novell LanWorkplace clients. I was wondering what, if
anything, I can or should do to prevent this, and whether or not it is
even a pressing problem.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

1. SCSI Error Message in /var/adm/messages

I'm seeing the following message in /var/adm/messages.

Jun 12 00:35:07 pizza kernel: scsi0 : resetting for second half of retries.'

They're only coming up once in a while (couple times a day), so I haven't
been able to pin it to any particular event.

My system is a ISA 486dx2-66 with an Adaptec 1542 one internal Segate HD,
16 megs of RAM, and Kernel 1.2.8 (Slackware installed from InfoMagic March
'95 CDs).

Please e-mail any responses that you may also post.  This newsgroup is
rather high-traffic, so I may miss a reply.

Thanks for any help,

Jeremy
