1. NFS root problems with Solaris 10 and Linux
Hi,
I have a Linux NFS server (for a particular directory only) that certain
machines on our network (netgroup unices) need to access. Since the
directory on Linux machine (zion) would contain backups, it is only
accessable by root and Linux /etc/exports contains no_root_squash option,
which is Linux equivalent for 'anon=0':
zion# cat /etc/exports
Permissions of the directory are
zion# ls -la /data/offsite/
total 24
drwx--x--x 6 root root 4096 Apr 27 13:56 ./
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Apr 27 10:28 ../
drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 14:29 bin/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 16:27 config/
drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 14:28 dumps/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 28 10:15 logs/
So far, so good. Now for the problem: all machines in unices netgroup are
able to access that directory except for (AFAIK) two: one of these is a
pretty much patched Solaris 10 SPARC machine, the other one is my Solaris
Express 04/05 x86 workstation. There are some more Solaris 10 machines in
our networks that _are_ able to access the said directory (using
/net/zion/data/offsite path), but these two can't and I don't know why.
First I thought the reason could be the patch 118375-01 for NFS client in
kernel, that was installed on that machine (sca) but is not elsewhere, but
even after backing that patch out and rebooting the machine, I still have
the same problem.
Here is what happens:
sca# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)
sca# cd /net/zion/data/offsite
bash: cd: /net/zion/data/offsite: Permission denied
and then, there is a fresh message in /var/adm/messages stating
Apr 28 12:41:47 sca nfs: [ID 435675 kern.warning] WARNING: NFS server initial call to zion failed: Not owner
Apr 28 12:41:47 sca automountd[329]: [ID 834250 daemon.error] Mount of zion:/data/offsite on /net/zion/data/offsite: Not owner
Apr 28 12:41:48 sca nfs: [ID 435675 kern.warning] WARNING: NFS server initial call to zion failed: Not owner
Apr 28 12:41:48 sca automountd[329]: [ID 834250 daemon.error] Mount of zion:/data/offsite on /net/zion/data/offsite: Not owner
Linux machine in question runs FC2 with kernel 2.6.10-1.771_FC2smp if that
matters, but I am pretty sure it doesn't as there are other Solaris 10
machines that can access that directory without problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks and bye, Dragan
