We need to find a way to 'lock' /var/yp/passwd (a non-shadowed NIS
passwd file) while our sysadmins edit it, so that changes made by one
person to /var/yp/passwd won't be inadvertently wiped out by another
user's changes.
To my knowledge, vipw wants to lock both a passwd file (i.e.,
/etc/passwd) AND its sinister, shadow-y brother (/etc/shadow), so I
don't think vipw is an option for us.
If you have any suggestions of how to get around this problem, please
reply to this message. Thanks!
