: # nei.conf file for the SNIC NE2000A or AT/LANTIC EP2000Tplus
: name="nei" parent="isa" reg=1,0x280,1f interrupts=3;

Hey!
I've been wondering about this.
I can't get my 3c905 to work correctly on Solaris 8-x86.
I need it to be 10/half, and I wonder if it is.
The elxl.conf file doesn't have a "name" line in it.
I also see two.  One on /kernel/drv, which never seems to get referenced,
and one in /platform/i86pc/kernel/drv/ which does seem to get referenced.

: name uses elx instead of elxl.) A couple of 3C905 NICs in my
: router use /kernel/drv/elxl.conf, which contains only comments.
: Everything automatically worked after I created two files named
: /etc/hostname.elxl0 and /etc/hostname.elxl1.

Right you were about the "l" missing.  I hadn't noticed that.
My system works.  It worked with no tweaking at all after install, but the
performance is strange.  I verified that I am at 10MB-half by unplugging
and reconnecting the link, which gives messages in /var/adm/messages.

But my problem is that an ftp transfer or kermit transfer from the WinME PC
to the Solaris box is about 800k+ from Solaris to the PC it is around 8K.

Actually, for the amount of traffic that there is going to be between the
two boxes, it probably doesn't matter.  I only happened to notice.

But it doesn't seem right.  Maybe it's the speed disparity between the two
sending systems.  The WinME is 1GHz, the Solaris is 266MHz.

Probably there is still one nic on the network configured to
full-duplex mode.
1GHz vs 266MHz doesnt matter.
