SCSI errors with IBM DCAS 32160

Post by Gerald Heini » Thu, 18 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Hi all

I'm having serious problems with an IBM DCAS 32160 2GB hard drive in my
Sparc 10. It's the second disk in the system (the first being the boot
disk, a Seagate ST31051N) on target 2. The errors I'm getting are:

gross error in esp status (c3)
...
SCSI transport failed: reason 'tran_err': retrying command
...
gross error in esp status (c7)
...
SCSI transport failed: reason 'reset': retrying command

and so on...

Can anyone tell me what's wrong here?

Cheers,

Gerald

Wait, contrary to what I sain n email, I do have a cheat sheet handy.

There is a jumper header on the (Damned tiny) PCB.  With the pins of
that header pointing toward you (The 50 pin IDC connector pointing
away therefrom), jumper 12 is on the left, and jumper 1 is on the right.

JP      Func
-------------
1       ID bit3 (for wide)
2       ID Bit2
3       ID Bit1
4       ID Bit0

5       Disable Auto Spin
6       SCSI Term ON
7       Disable Unit Attn
8       TI Sync Nego[tiation]

9       AutoStart Delay
10      Delay Start 6/12
11      Disable Parity
12      External LED

All I use on my S10s is th appropriate ID bit.  All other jumpers off.

Cheers, Sam

I have a feeling it's a termination issue (as usual :-( ). I'm going to
try setting/resetting the SCSI termination jumper. This drive used to be
in a Sparc IPX and before that, in a PC and I've no idea what the
settings are at the moment.

1. Anybody else have problems with the IBM DORS 32160?

Hi,

I recently purchased an IBM DORS 32160 2GB SCSI-drive. Under DOS it seems
to work fine, but with Linux I only get a 'target 6 ignored SDTR and went
into COMMAND OUT' message. Does anybody else, who happens to have this
drive, have any difficulties with it? Maybe the problem is specific to
my otherwise very mundane Hardware, which it must be if everybody else
is happy with this drive :-/.

Thanks,
