PREPARATORY COMMISSION FOR THE
COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN TREATY ORGANIZATION

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
with its Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, is the international
organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under
the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the Treaty
banning any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear
explosion.  The Treaty provides for a global verification regime,
including a network of 321 stations worldwide, a communications system,
an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor
compliance.

We seek to recruit a highly qualified candidate for the following
position:

POST:     Unit Head for Systems and Database Administration
GRADE:                             P-4

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Infrastructure and Communication
Section, International Data Centre Division, to: Perform UNIX System
Administration tasks on a Sun Solaris based network of computer servers
and workstations, to include system and file backups, user account
management, application and operating system configuration and updating,
system security monitoring, maintaining records and logs of
configuration changes and providing common services such as electronic
mail, network file systems, domain name service, and Internet access.
Troubleshoot, diagnose and work with other staff members to ensure all
maintenance corrections are completed swiftly and correctly. Maintain
metrics and reports of operating system performance, utilization and
maintenance actions. Prepare and maintain document on operating and
computer systems configurations, systems management procedures, problem
resolution procedures, and users training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced university degree in computer science of a related field. At
least seven years experience in installing, configuring and maintaining
the UNIX operating systems and related services for a network of 20 or
more computers, especially Sun Microsystems Servers and workstations.
Experience with the following programming languages: C, Perl, and shell
programming. Experience in administration and integration with the
Windows NT environment is desirable, but not mandatory. Fluency in
English and a good knowledge of at least one other of the official
languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission.  Excellent communications
skills in English essential.

REMUNERATION/CONTRACT:
Depending on professional background and experience, indicative taxfree
annual net base salary (inclusive of a variable element for post
adjustment) from US$ 65,915.- (without dependants) and US$ 70,804.-
(with dependants), subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO
Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme.  Additional benefits
include, when applicable, dependency allowance, education grant for
children, rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year, home leave travel
every two years.  Initial contract for fixed-term of three years.
