solaris-9: /opt/sfw/bin/lynx wants libncurses.so.5; OOPS, not there

Nope, not there.

(That "allunixfiles...nam" contains *all* filenames on the computer;
   once gotten, the egrep is sure faster than a "find"!)

What do I do?

Looks like you should reinstall your software extras or make sure it's really
not in /opt/sfw/lib

A better way is to look at the contents of /etc/release:

Software in /opt/sfw/lib comes from the companion cd. So I would bet that you
have the SFWlynx package installed. The ncurses library is in the SFWncur pkg,
so you should install that.

Any file installed by a pkgadd will already be listed in the
/var/sadm/install/contents file

Well, it's on my early Solaris 9 distribution CD. I don't have 8/03 ... maybe it went
missing. I doubt it, though. Sounds like you should look carefully at the CDROM and
see if the package is or is not present on the CDROM. Then your problem becomes
one of figuring out why it didn't install.
