For a while I've been getting complaints about our site from people using
Internet Explorer, because often during peak periods of use, forms due not
display promptly on their browsers. The text and graphics draw okay, but the
form elements are delayed until IE thinks the page is done loading. From what
I've been able to learn, IE waits until the server sends a FIN packet to close
the TCP connection before it thinks the page is done loading.
The problem is that when the system is moderately busy (but by no means under
any real stress ), FIN packets are often delayed by up to 95 seconds after the
last of the response has been sent by the server. The server is Netscape
Enterprise Server 2.0a. I've also tried 2.01, but it didn't seem to help. The
operating system is Solaris 2.5.1 with the latest recommended patches from Sun
(but not the Internet Server Support kit).
I've tried everything I can think of to get this working. I think it is a
problem with Netscape, but they claim it is Sun's problem. Of course, Sun
agrees with me and blames Netscape.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Does anyone know of a fix other than
switching to a different webserver?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
