DNS problem after Solaris 7 installation

DNS problem after Solaris 7 installation

Post by Andreja Fa » Tue, 07 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I installed  Solaris 7 (5/99) Sparc on an Ultra10 using Web Start after
Sun replaced CD-ROM, motherboard and processor.
After I creaded the resolv.conf and defaultrouter files and modified the
/etc/hosts file (added DNS in the hosts line) I still can't see beyond
the network. These are the exact same files the old instllation
(Solaris2.6/Sparc) had! I checked the syntax and basically crossed every
T and dotted every I and still no dice...
What did I do wrong?
Thanks for any suggestions.

DNS problem after Solaris 7 installation

DNS should be added in the host line in nsswitch.conf  changes to the
host file should be adding the IP address and hostname of the DNS
server.

I have the same problem on Intel

hm maybe that's a typo, but you have to add dns to the hosts line
in nsswitch.conf, not in /etc/hosts.

Can you ping external hosts by IP address ? Does nslookup work (e.g.
'nslookup www.sun.com') ?

If nothing works, post your resolv.conf/nsswitch.conf ..

The main difference between Solaris 2.6 and 7 (related to your question, of
course) is in version of BIND: 4.9.4-P1 for 2.6 and 8.1.2 for 2.7. The latter
is configured in /etc/named.conf, instead of named.boot, and has absolutely
different suntax.
