VxVM / VxFS 3.5 vxlicrep

Hi all,

First time I've hit Veritas Foundation Suite.

The client has upgraded from VxVM and VxFS 3.4 to versions 3.5. They
already had valid, node-locked 3.4 licences. When they installed the
3.5 software, they also installed the 3.5 demo licences.

I am trying to work out what will happen when the demo licenses
expire.

Summary (edited to protect the innocent) of installed licences (no,
don't count the x.. there are actually more digits than show, but you
get the idea):

Product                Licence Key Expiry              Feature
VERITAS Volume Manager 6696xxxxxxx PERMANENT_NODE_LOCK VxVM
VERITAS Volume Manager 7779xxxxxxx PERMANENT_NODE_LOCK RAID
VERITAS File System    7697xxxxxxx PERMANENT_NODE_LOCK VXFS
VERITAS Volume Manager R8C9-xxxx-xxxx-x Thu Sep 11 01:00:00 2003
VERITAS File System    P4C9-xxxx-xxxx-x Thu Sep 11 01:00:00 2003

Should they exist, is there an option to the new licencing commands to
show version dependencies on the licencing? (vxlicrep -e doesn't show
any).

Thanks

Matt

Nothing should happen.  You should be able to simply remove the demo
licenses.  You can do that at any time.  The 3.4 licences are valid on
3.5.  I'd want to do it when I could reboot to verify that nothing
strange will happen.

Nothing will happen. Vxlicrep reports all licenses that have been
installed on the system. Unlike previous versions of Veritas software,
new licenses don't simply overwrite old licenses. In this case, the demo
licenses will simply becomre invalid.  The nodelocked/permanent licenses
are what the software is currently running on, any way.
