My attempts at installing Solaris 7 (8/99 release) have failed, always
at the same point: Configuring devices. I think I have a hardware
incompatibility. Note: all hardware works under DOS.
Here's the hardware:
ASUS TX97-LE motherboard (on the Sun HCL)
AMD K-6, 300 MHz
PC-100 RAM (128 MB)
Matrox Millennium video card (on the SUN HCL)
Mitsumi 24X CD-ROM (ATAPI/IDE)
Matrox 8 GB hard disk (IDE)
Intel Pro 100 NIC
Some things I've done in an attempt to have Solaris install include:
1. Changing the cabling of the CD-ROM from Secondary master to Primary
slave
2. Disabling video cache
3. Reducing clock speed of the CPU (down to 233 MHz)
4. Disabling external cache
5. Disabling ROM BIOS shadowing
6. Reading a lot of docs at SUN sites.
NOTHING has worked! Installation always fails at the same point!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
