E3000 Flashprom Error

E3000 Flashprom Error

Post by Shau » Thu, 12 Aug 2004 02:32:38

E3000 SunOS 5.6

I get the following msg in /var/adm/messages:

doing a prtdiag -v provides:

flashprom unavailable on CPU board 7

PROM detected failure....
Board 7 fault: PROM detected
Fault: fail

revision info:
Board 7: OBP 3.2.16 POST 3.9.4

I did a search on this subject and found info regarding patch
#103346-30

However, when I run ./flash-update-30 I get the following:

Extracting files
Loading flashprom driver
Creating devlinks

Current System Board PROM Revisions:
-----------------------------------------------------------
flash-update: Can't open PROM /dev/flashprom:7: No such file
or directory

Unloading flashprom driver

Not sure how to proceed from here...other than replacing the board...

Thanks.

You could try running an "update-proms" from the OK prompt, but I
seriously doubt it will work if 103346 doesn't work.

Replacing the board is probably the only option...

1. Paying - ISO FlashProm 111292-11 (Sunblade 1000)

Hello :)

INFO
I have an old sytem board 501-4143 (originally sold as Ultra100, first
Sunblade1000's?)
I attempted to update the prom with 111292-07
(few months ago, copied files to root, can't recall why it failed)
I attempted to reinstall Solaris 8, using downloaded ISO's
(can't find correct directory, entering pathnames advances install, but
evenutally fails)
I can get an ok prompt.
  I cannot boot the machine now;
Alloc of 0x400000 bytes at 0x10000000 refused
    Elf64 read error.
    boot failed
    Enter filename [/platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix]:
(Its gone I tell you, all GONE)

  I now see this Banner
    SUNW Ultra 100, etc..
    OpenBoot 4.0 common-26, etc..

QUESTION
If I reflash the prom , will it update the OBP,  forcing the machine type
to a SunBlade1000 ?
If so, I think I'll be able to install Solaris 8 with new partitions etc.
(from cd's)

SOLUTION
Is it possible to  make a bootable ISO of the flash update with a PC and
Burner ?
     http://sunsite.utk.edu/ftp/pub/patches/111292-11.zip
If not, is anyone out there willing to make a bootable ISO including the
above patch ?
I would gladly donate for your time, as I am quite stuck, researching
steady, but its slow going :)

Thanks in advance for advice or help !
