Pat,

If you are running in compat mode, then there is no point in securing
the table.

If not, then yes, you can make the passwd table field and creds readable
only by a group that all systems are members of (but no users).

NIS+ question

Anyone out there administer NIS+??? I'm having an argument with a fellow
engineer about the creds in NIS+. I claim that using the niscat command
on the passwd table as "joe user" should not show the encrypted password
feild but rather show "NP". He claims that it was setup that way for
compatability reasons for YP (NIS).

Does anyone know if this is a valid argument? I would like to see it
secure but his thinks it would break NIS. If anyone has any advice or
comments it would be geatly appreciated. I would also like some
documentation if you could point me inthe rite direction.

thank you

1. NIS question (1): same KDE for all nis-clients

Hi,

I discovered recently linux and use it now in my school. But i wonder how to
do this:
i use NIS with about 100 NIS-clients, each on different computers. I also
use KDE. It works good, but each time i create a new NIS-client, i have to
redefine all the KDE options and the desktop. Does it exist a way to define
once the KDE environment (desktop, font size, background, ....) and then to
apply it to all NIS-clients?

Thanks in advance
Fred
