Multiple Visuals under Solaris x86

Multiple Visuals under Solaris x86

Post by The Hedge F » Sat, 11 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I looked in the Solaris x86 FAQ but couldn't find
info on which video cards support multiple visuals
under X. Does the stock Solaris X server support
multiple visuals on some video cards? What about
3rd party and XFree86?

1. Multiple visuals with PGX24/PGX64 / was: Re: Visuals and Layers

This is not correct.
Setting the depth to 32 with m64config (% m64config -depth 32 #) will
give you both 24bit and 8bit visuals (Solaris 2.7/2.8 may require the
m64 driver patch, see
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=106146 or
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=108606) - this even
works on newer Ultra5 machines (older ones may not have enougth video
memory for 24bit).
