Upgrade x86 2.1 --> 2.5?

Upgrade x86 2.1 --> 2.5?

Post by Alan W. Holl » Mon, 13 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I have an opportunity to buy a shrink-wrapped upgrade-able copy of
Solaris x86 version 2.1, including the SDK for what seems to me to be a
cheap price.  I fully understand that early versions of 2.x were quite buggy.

My question is this:  What is the process I would go through to upgrade, and
how much will upgrading likely cost?  I think it is the desktop/2-user
version of the system.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

1. Upgrade price: x86 2.1 -> 2.4?

I have a Sparc 5 running 2.4 and a 486 running 2.1. I'd like to upgrade
the 486 to 2.4 to provide faster NFS (supporting a different Ethernet
board than the WD8003 I'm using now) and working print service. (I
couldn't get the 2.1 x86 print service to work across the net.)

I see SunSoft hawking the compiler + OS bundle for $695, but I don't
need the compilers. And I don't qualify for the $99 educational deal.
Is there some cheaper upgrade deal for me?

Thanks in advance for any info on this.
