Thanks for the explanation.  Pageview doesn't seem to work after
my 2.3 upgrade.  It gives up after a while with the message

*** Job Timed out!
*** Page 1 may have a PostScript error such as a
*** string or procedure that does not end.

This is a very simple 1 page document generated with dvips.

Has anyone else bumped into this behavior?  Did I miss some configurations
steps for DPS?

This looks like the result of a very old version of dvips (one of the
ones that didn't follow the document structuring conventions).  The obvious
remedy would be to get a more up-to-date version from your favourite
TeX archive.

Alternate workarounds would be to increase the timeout for pageview using
the -timeout flag (unlikely to work since a page of TeX shouldn't take
30 seconds to display in any case) or try using imagetool instead.

Perhaps, but i think OpenWindows 3.3 has a bug thet leads to this error
after a certain amount of running time, whatever be the ps files...

Have a look into the OW3.3 server jumbo patch (101362-xx ?).

does not imagetool call pageview when showing PS file?

BTW, you can also use ghostview...
