Patch 106541-14 and a DVD drive (Solaris 7)

Post by Adrienne Kotz » Thu, 25 Jan 2001 16:31:46

Hi there,

I installed Solaris 7 on a 220R with a DVD drive and applied the
Recommended patches. After this I cannot use the DVD drive. The
patch causing this is the above mentioned one and I think the problem
is the '/usr/sbin/rmmount'. Has anybody seen this before ? Any solution ?

Patch 106541-14 and a DVD drive (Solaris 7)

Yes,

I mailed a warning about this a couple of weeks ago.

I had exactly the same problem and after speaking to Sun support I was
asked to roll back the patches because rmmount gets broken. A new patch
cluster should be out soon 106541-15 which is supposed to fix it.

However, if you can live with a non-working DVD drive 106541-14 offers
significant fixes including the E-cache sc* for the processors

Ask Sun for Tpatch T106541-15 - in theory it should fix that problem.
Or wait one or two weeks - rev15 should be out than...

Hi guys,

I got a 'rmmount' binary from Sun which fixed the problem
apparently.

Thanx.

1. Problem with Solaris 7 Kernel patch 106541-15 and catopen/catgets

[[ PLEASE DON'T SEND ME EMAIL COPIES OF POSTINGS ]]

In patch 106541-15 we've fixed the security problems for
the NLSPATH problems.

Unfortunately, we cannot fix this properly and have everything still
work exactly as before.

Chowning the files to root helps some; installing them in system
directories also.  Not requiring NLSPATH to be set also helps.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean my:
"other applications which run under non-root user IDs can not run suid program"

I think we changed it such that suid programs can only open root-owned
catalogues.  I'd need to check.

I did the code and it's pretty fascist.

I'd need to know a bit more about what you're doing.  That way
I can either explain to you why what you're doing is a possible
security hole or whether we're perhaps too strict.
