1 user in more than 16 groups, how ?

Post by Martin Ohnemu » Thu, 15 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi,
I have running several solaris (5.X) machines  using nis services. The
standard parameter  NGROUPS_MAX
is set to the default value 16 which says that  one (1) user cannot be  in
more groups than 16 (exactly: <=16). The
'groups' file is controlled by nis-services .
Which steps are to be done  to increase  this restriction ?
Do i have to do these steps on all machines  or only on nis-server(s)  ?

Any help is appreciated
Martin

You can have one user in more than 16 groups as long as it doesn't go through an RPC
based service, ie. NFS,NIS etc.... So basically you cant do it with NIS, and NFS for
sure you cant. Its horribly messy.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

(s)  ?

Are you using groups to control access to files? Try using ACL's.
