PatchPro downloading already installed patches

Post by Dave Ockwell-Jenne » Thu, 08 May 2003 02:15:57

I have a Solaris 9 system that insists on downloading patches via
PatchPro that have already been installed.

Any idea why this is happening, and if possible, how to correct the problem?

Same PatchPro problem here.

I've tried using the signed java applet at SunSolve instead, which suggested
only the following patches:

114127-01
113072-05
114369-01
114132-01
113026-05
112785-15

, but installing any of them fails:

# cat /var/sadm/patch/114127-01/log

This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
version of a package which is already installed.  This installation
will attempt to overwrite this package.

/root/114127-01/SUNWarc/install/checkinstall: /root/114127-01/SUNWarc/install/checkinstall: cannot open
pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
Dryrun complete.
No changes were made to the system.

Any ideas?

I'm also experiencing this problem, but only in the last couple of
weeks.  I'm guessing it might be a server side issue or something, i'm
using the Europe server - but i think it's a Sun-ism.  'Tis a pain,
thats for sure.

Sorry i cant help

Permissions were ok (all patch-related files readable for nobody),
but adding the "install" user solved the problem for me. Thanks.

So far I've installed all needed patches according to what the
small java applet at SunSolve reports, but "pprosvc -d" insists
on downloading more of them, beginning with 112941-04 (already
installed), even patches for packages not installed on the system.

1. How to quickly compare already installed patches with list of new patches to install?

Hello,

I would like to update my solaris 8 with recommended patches. In the
recommended patch cluster readme file, it is advised to backout older
version of the included patches before applying the new version.

The problem is that if you list the installed patches using: showrev -p,
you get 15 pages of installed patches. Also, there are 2 pages of patch
listing in the recommended patch cluster readme file. If you will have
to print and compare the two lists, it will take you several hours to
figure out the patches to backout.

Is there a quick way or a tool that allows one to quickly determine if
there is an older version of the patches to apply and eventually
automatically backing them out.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
