by I just ran into the same problem!
The tcp_rexmit_interval parameters deal with the amount of time the system will wait for an ACK to be received.
Usually the max value of 200 is to low, change this to 10000 and you will see a dramatic increase in responce time, however when
a packet actually drops, you now have to wait 10sec before retransmission. :(
