I am getting kernel panics left and right. This is a Sparc20 running
Solaris 2.4. This machine has had no problems in almost 10 months
of uptime.

Try tuning the following kernel parameters on your system:

lotsfree : reduce this so that paging starts later
desfree : reduce this so that swapping is delayed

Also, reduce lockable_memory. Reducing the dynamic buffer size also
helps.

sysdef -i should give you a list of default parameters. the /etc/system
file should be appended as follows:

set module_name:variable=value
sysdef -i will give you the exact parameters.

The solaris answerbook should give you ranges.

When is this happening?
You may want to run the system diags on your Sparc20 to make sure
you aren't having a physical problem.  There is the remote chance
that you missed a patch, but that not being the case, hopefully you
logged everything you've recently done to the system since the
machine started going down.

More than likely, if it is a hardware problem, your memory module
is screwed.  If you are still under warrenty or under a repair
agreement this would be the time to have the guys in the white coats
come in and fix stuff for you

Hello,

On November 20th I installed all the recommended pacthes for Solaris 2.4
on our machine and now the machine panics:

Dec  2 14:49:06 libserv.kfki.hu unix: BAD TRAP: type=9 rp=f0ca8d74 addr=20202074 mmu_fsr=126 rw=1
Dec  2 14:49:06 libserv.kfki.hu unix: aleph: Data fault
Dec  2 14:49:06 libserv.kfki.hu unix: kernel read fault at addr=0x20202074, pme=0x0
Dec  2 14:49:06 libserv.kfki.hu unix: MMU sfsr=126: Invalid Address on supv data fetch at level 1

Dec  3 09:30:58 libserv.kfki.hu unix: BAD TRAP: type=9 rp=f0c78d74 addr=94 mmu_fsr=326 rw=1

Dec  3 09:30:58 libserv.kfki.hu unix: MMU sfsr=326: Invalid Address on supv data fetch at level 3
