solaris 9 12/02's sfw/emacs -- problems, anyone?

Post by David Com » Wed, 16 Apr 2003 07:56:53

Before I give a bunch of particulars, I want to ask
if anyone (other than me (I?)) has noticed anything.

If no one has, then I'm doing something very wrong --
butter build my own, I guess.

First, I ask.

Particulars!? like tha large useless menu-buttons!? I'm using emacs 20.7.1
from the older releases on 12/02 because I really found the new one
useless.

What are your gripes!?

A million -- something's really wrong with something
I'm doing, must be, if *you* haven't noticed.

My problems, some of them.

. in *shell, neither C-C c nor C-C z do anything.

. search (eg isearch-forward) *intermittently*, when
I hit the <return> key, leaps point back to where
I started from; ie wouldn't stick at most-recently-found
place.  (No bell, so not a "failure")

That's enough!  If they don't happen to you, with the
emacs loaded from that extra-software cd (12/02),
then it must be something that I'm doing, not whoever
built and made packages of that extra software.

Which is what I was trying to find out -- if anyone
else had the same problems.

Maybe something loaded via my .emacs not quite
compatible with this new version...

1. Solaris 12/02 iso burn problem

Has anyone burned the Solaris sparc 12/02 iso's successfully using cdrecord (and XCDRoast)?

I'm having no end of trouble burning sol-9-u2-sparc-v1.iso (v2 burns fine) where it seems to burn just fine but the cd only contains directories s4 and s5 which are empty.

So far I've:
tried burning it about 6 times at various speeds.
Tried various reputable brands of CD
downloaded it again (there is no md5 check thingy that I could find)
loopback mounted it and it *seems* fine.
Upgraded CDrecord from 1.x to 2.0
Upgraded XCDRoast from 0.98alpha10 to alpha12 (nice work guys:)
Tried reading it on different CDs (a: a pioneer DVD and a plextor which it was burnedn on)

Any help appreciated espcially what DID work for you.
