Please help resetting system date

Post by Frit » Wed, 24 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I just did an incredibly stupid thing and set my system date to 23 may
2099.  at that point the OS locked up (though the CDE mouse cursor still
moved).  I tried to Stop-A & boot, but it doesn't  boot (obviously...)

I don't know where the date info is stored, so doing a boot cdrom -s
wouldn't help me much.

If anyone can give me suggestions on how to fix it without reinstalling
the OS I'd appreciate it.  I'll feel really dumb if there's a simple
fix.

Thanks alot

boot cdrom

when you get a cmdtoot or console or whatever

change the date

shutdown and you should be fine ...

Stop drinking so much coffee and the frazzle will go away ... :)

if you restar the sun installation it asks you to set the date, than
just terminate the install.

1. reset system time/date from prompt?

This is very easy to do.  Telnet into the Linux box as root, then
type "date <2-digit Month><2-digit Day of Month><Military time hour><Minutes>
        <2-digit Year>"

To set it to October 24, 1997, 8:35 PM (local time):

        date 1024203597

To use UTC (i.e. GMT time):

        date -u 1024203597 (8:35 PM GMT)

Be sure the timezone is set properly for the machine's local time
