Help Configuring RAID 0+1 using RAID Manager 6.22

How do you configure RAID Manager 6.22 to set up a RAID 0+1 configuration. I
have the two RAID 0 LUNS created and now how do I make it so that they
mirror each other?

Any help would greatly be appreciated,

Peter Milleson

I don't think you can do that.  I think you have to create a single lun
as 0+1 at the start.  Do you have that option for a new lun?

When you create your Lun, choose RAID 1 with 4,6,8 disks...  (i.e. more than 2
disks, and number of disks must be even)

I found out that from an SAA mailing list that when you chose RAID 1, RM
makes the RAID device 0+1. I don't know whether that is true or not and I'm
wondering whether the RAID is more likely to be RAID 1+0. Ah, the subtlety
of RAID. You gotta love it.

When I created the LUN, it reported the capacity as n/2 which is right for
RAID 0+1 so maybe the SAA mailing list is correct. I wish the documentation
was a little more clear.

Thanks,

Peter

1. raid 0+1 or raid 5+1?

Hello,

The magic question,  In setting up an Oracle based OLTP app, which
should I use, raid 0+1 or raid 5+1 (Assume hw based raid 5 and mirroring
via ods or vxvm).

Note:  I am looking for the right balance between price, performance and
reliability.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Ron
