How to backup installed Solaris packages for re-installation?

Post by Eclectic Attitu » Tue, 21 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I've got Sun's C and other programming tools installed and licenced on

Solaris 2.6, but I no longer have the distribution CD.  Now I want to
install Solaris 8, then re-install these packages back on the system.

I see that 'apropos pkg' lists some useful pointers, and especially
'man pkgchk' can tell me what is in a particular package, but in
a clumsy way if I want to traslate to (say) a backup cpio archive.

So is there a simpler way to backup packages for re-installation?
(i.e. I just need to be able to re-install back on the same machine)

1. Installing packages from an install server (after Solaris installation)

Hello,

I'm trying to set up an install server under Solaris 2.6. I have
successfully installed
Solstice Disksuite and some other packages from the "finish" script (the
one run after the
main installation is finished).  The problem I have is that some others
(namely Solstice
Backup) give errors when installed from this script:

The errors are in one of two forms:

1. ERROR: freopen(/dev/tty, "r", stdin) failed, errno=6
(I am using tip throught the serial port to the install client as there
is no monitor)

2. The postinstall script does not recognize that I used "-R /a" as an
argument to the
pkgadd command and starts trying to create directories in the read-only
file system used
for the install process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please e-mail as well.

Thank you,
