Senior Systems Administrator/Operations Manager
DESCRIPTION
Immediate opening for Senior UNIX Systems Administration
in a Pre-IPO Internet startup. Help create and control your own destiny.
Provide system and network administration expertise within a high
profile, UNIX (Sun Solaris and Linux) production environment. Duties
encompass hardware and software installation, system backups, system
usage management, and analysis.
Provide departmental management to a staff of 3 to 5 System
Administrators and PC Technicians. Duties encompass personnel
supervision and coordination. All responsibilities focus on overall
system stability and long-term integrity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
System stability and up-time
Production system implementation and associated network facilities
System configuration and software installation;
Consulting and technical support for UNIX and network issues
System performance, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and capacity planning
Integration, test, and support of internal information systems;
Documentation for all systems implemented and/or modified
Creation and execution of quality plans, test plans, recovery plans, and
schedules; Disk management, backup, and recovery
Asset management and control for all hardware and software licenses
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS DESIRED
5 years experience with UNIX System Administration in a corporate production
setting
3 years experience with network configuration and troubleshooting
3 years experience with configuration and trouble shooting Network
Appliance RAID disk arrays
Ability to work well under pressure and accomplish tasks under tight
deadlines; Strong problem solving and excellent verbal and written
communication skills
Proficiency in all aspects of UNIX System Administration
High level knowledge of TCP/IP Network Administration, 100bTX,
Internet, intranet, and Mail concepts
Experience installing and configuring Oracle DBMS (Oracle 8 a plus)
Ability to diagnose problems across UNIX and PC platforms
Shell programming experience (Perl and plus)
Should work well in a team environment and be willing to work
off-hours and weekends as needed
Experience in large enterprises and configuration management a strong plus
On call via pager during non-working hours
EDUCATION
BS or better in MIS or Computer Science, or equivalent
