Manually starting Common Desktop Environment.

Manually starting Common Desktop Environment.

Post by fabian.w.. » Fri, 15 Dec 2000 12:54:57

All,
I have installed Solaris 8 on my desktop and have disabled un-needed
daemons from the /etc/rc2.d directory. I want to start the CDE desktop
from the command line, so what I did was
$xinit
$dtwm & (from within console window)
which just hung the machine with an hour glass. Does anyone know in what
order and what daemons I need to start as well as environment variables
that need to be set in order to get the CDE up and running ? Note that
$xinit
$twm & (from within console window)
does work giving me a rudimentary windowing system.

Thanks in advance,

1. Exceed hangs at "starting common desktop environment"

When I start a xwindows session to my J40
(aix 4.3.2 ) I get a login screen, when I enter my username and
password it says "starting common desktop environment" and
hangs.. does anybody know what the problem could be.

Thanx in advance,

Reb
