Hi !

----

As the subject says...

The beast uses base64 in content-transfer-encoding, any I did find a
switch/pref. option to turn this off :-(

-- snip --
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.61 [en] (X11; I; SunOS 5.7 sun4u)
X-Accept-Language: en
-- snip --

I assume you are trying to reconfigure your newsreader ;-)

In Preferences -> Mail & Newsgroups -> Messages -> Send messages that
use 8-bit characters you can select "As is" or "Mime". Set it to "As
is".

This option was set, but it seems that this won't work :-(

Maybe we can compare our ~/.netscape/.preferences.js ??

Hi !

----

Maybe I found the problem: In ~/.netscape/preferences.js was a line containing
attach_binary=true
Seems that removing this prefs option fixed my problem...

And again:
Sorry for the base64-encoded articles !!!

1. Netscape 4.61, "relaying denied"

Context:

One Linux server, has modem and connects to ISP via PPP (old machine, RH
5.0). Also supports several machines on an Ethernet LAN. Workstations on
LAN run RH 6.1, Netscape 4.61.

Problem:

The problem workstation is new. It has no problem using Navigator to
surf the web (across the LAN, through the server, over the PPP link to
the Internet). When using Netscape Messenger to send email, can send
email to machines on LAN without problems, but when sending to address
beyond the server (has to go over the PPP link to Internet), Netscape
pops up a box that says "relaying denied". Nothing in /var/log/messages,
or anywhere else that I can find.

Clearly, I must have forgotten to set something, either in Netscape, on
the workstation, or on the server. Any clues greatly appreciated.
