moving from SPARC solaris 2.3 to x86 solaris 2.4

greetings folks,

i have some questions concerning the migration from SPARC solaris 2.3 to an
intel-based solaris 2.4 .  to begin with, once you're working on a SPARC
platform, you pretty much know what you've got hardware-wise; on the
intel platform, one can mix and match in a far broader sense, creating
configurations which may or may not be optimal towards speed/software
development/etc.

how can one optimize this transfer?  does it make sense to move to
an intel platform based upon cost, or would that be sacrificing qualities
inherent within the SPARC platform (speed/graphics/etc.)?

secondly, what about vendors moving their tools to the intel 2.4
platform?  ie, if i have informix or tuxedo or nmake etc. working on
SPARC, how long would it take for vendors to produce reliable code
for 2.4?

finally, is the intel 2.4 the same as the SPARC 2.4?

thanx in advance,
