How to configure monitor resolution on a Ultra 10 + Solaris 2.6?

Could someone tell me how to change the monitor resolution on a Ultra10
fitted with a PGX24 and running under Solaris 2.6. I tried several
resolutions, supported by the PGX24 and my monitor, without any success. For
instance, if I use the command:

        m64config -res 1024x768x60 try

The system says
'About to change video resolution to 1024x768x60 for 10 seconds
      Continue (yes/no)'
I type yes and the screen goes nearly all white. I then press CR and get the
question:

'Do you want 1024x768x60 to become the new setting (yes/no)?' NO

Interestingly, the command   m64config -prconf  says that the current
setting is 1152x900x66 which actually is *not* supported by my monitor
(although the display is ok).

Why I am doing all this? Because I would like to use a DELL D1028LR monitor,
but this does not work. The display (perfectly good otherwise) keeps
switching on and off with a period of about 2 seconds. According to my
supplier, I would need to change the resolution to 1024x768x60 in order to
fix this problem.

Thank you in advance

Um, have you tried answering yes here?  It isn't going to use the new
setting unless you say yes.  It would be nice if the "try" mode
actually displayed a test pattern (like NT does).

I get no clear indication as to whether the m64config command is ok or not,
As I said, all I get is a white screen. This suggests to me that something
is
wrong. (It also re-enforces my opinion that Solaris is a half-baked system).
Therefore I dare not say 'yes' because that will change
/usr/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig and if the resolution setting is indeed
'incorrect', I will no longer be able to use my system.
