HELP! Corrupted /etc/passwd file on Solaris x86

Yes I have a corrupted passwd file, specifically the root entry. I can
still log on but not as root nor can I su to root because it cannot
find the specified shell.

Short of re-installing the O/S, is there any way to replace the corrupted
file so that I can regain access as root?

Any help _much_ appreciated.

I am running SOlaris 2.4 on an Intel box (x86). It appears I
have a corrupted /etc/passwd file, I can't get logged in at all
(even root) and I can't telnet there, etc.

Is there anyway out of this??
