Need help mounting NFS version 1 on a Solaris 2.3 system

Post by Scott Simps » Wed, 29 Dec 1993 10:14:16

I have an HP system running HP/UX 8.7 (the old HP OS) and it only has
version 1 of NFS. I'm trying to mount a partition from it on Solaris
2.3 and I'm getting the message

# mount goldmoon:/hphome2 /hphome2
nfs mount: goldmoon:/hphome2 server not responding: RPC: Authentication error; why = Invalid client credential
nfs mount: retrying: /hphome2
nfs mount: goldmoon:/hphome2 server not responding: RPC: Authentication error; why = Invalid client credential
^C#

Goldmoon, the HP, only has version 1 of mountd on it as evidenced by

# rpcinfo -p goldmoon |fgrep mountd
    100005    1   udp   1041  mountd
#

Syllabub, the 2.3 machine, has both versions:

# rpcinfo -p syllabub |fgrep mountd
    100005    1   udp  32803  mountd
    100005    2   udp  32803  mountd
    100005    1   tcp  32776  mountd
    100005    2   tcp  32776  mountd
#

I ran snoop and got the following packet trace between the two
machines:

Any idea why it won't mount? It mounts a Sun running 4.1.2 just fine.

1. odd problem with Solaris 2.3 /usr/ucb/mail and nfs-mounted /var/mail

We are experiencing an extremely strange problem since we upgraded
our Solaris boxes from 2.2 to 2.3.

Our configuration: we have /var/mail NFS mounted from an hp300
running MORE/bsd 4.3.

The symptom:

% /usr/ucb/mail

hangs forever.

"ps -eal" reveals that it is blocked in wait on "config_cv".
can anybody tell me
(a) what does this mean?
(b) what can I do about it?

Thanks,
