telnet from xterm doesn't set right # of rows

telnet from xterm doesn't set right # of rows

Post by Jong-Min Pa » Tue, 18 Apr 1995 04:00:00

This may not be solely related to solaris2. I've checked FAQs but
nothing remotely similar.

How do I set the login script so that telnet to a solaris2 from an
xterm with variable # of rows can set the terminal settings with the
right # of rows?

Currently TERM=xterm is passed correctly, but # of rows is not
correct (I think it defaults to 65) even though I use 35 lines,
for example.

I've used eval `tset ... $TERM` with no avail. Any argument
that I have to pass to stty? Currently I manually do stty rows nn.

The problem still occurs when running local xterm from OpenWindows
from a command shell window: vi/more have problem with the right # of
rows to scroll.

This seemes to be a FAQ:

telnet is not able to set the size of the tty you are using.

Use rlogin instead. Rlogin has a method to submit the terminal type and size
to the remote host.

I have put 'eval `/usr/openwin/bin/resize -c`' in .login.

1. XTERM rows problem when telnet.

Hi,

When I use ppp connection and telnet to my Sun workstation, I have to type
"stty rows 24" to keep "vi" happy.

Does anyone know how to avoid this?

Thanks.
