Sony AIT SDX-300C tape drivers wanted

Post by anonym.. » Tue, 04 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Anybody out there have a Sony Advanced Intelligent Tape drive model
SDX-300C working under Sun Solaris?

I've got one attached to an Ultra 5 with Solaris 2.6. It's a Wide SCSI
device: probe-scsi shows it OK. But boot -r won't make anything in /dev/rmt
for it. Sun says I need either drivers or entries for st.conf but I can't
seem to find exactly what I need.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks to all that quickly responded, I now have my tape drive working.

In a nutshell the answers were:
Get publications 5781 and 5788 from the Sony FAXback line 800-883-7669. Set
jumpers 1-8 off, on, off, on, off, off, on, off respectively.

Edit the /kernel/drv/st.conf file:

tape-config-list =
        "SONY    SDX-300C",     "Sony 8mm AIT", "SONY_AIT";
#That's 4 spaces between SONY and SDX

SONY_AIT        =       1,0x34,0,0x1639,4,0x13,0x8c,0x8c,0x8c,3;

probe-scsi-all at the boot prompt to verify the presence of the tape
drive.

boot with -r

Try the drive on /dev/rmt/0

Worked for me.
