Any news about the printer system beyond 2.3?

Any news about the printer system beyond 2.3?

As the wording is out that the current SVR4 lp is gonna die in 2.4+, I'd like
to know if there is some info (White Papers??) available about the new
'revolution' of printing headaches?

Thanks, Michael

The http link http://umbc8.umbc.edu/~vijay (follow the solaris link),
has a statement from sun about where printing is going.

I'd expect that it's going to look a LOT like Palladium and the POSIX
printing standards.  A LOT.

1. Solaris 2.3, syslog and News

We are a new Usenet site: I've been taking a feed for about 6 weeks.
Twice in that time (at least!) my 1Gb disk has been dangerously full.
(ie 99%). I haven't the resource to allocate more disks just yet, but
I don't want to stop taking groups because of this.  I have a copy of
an expire.ctl -configuration routine posted by Yufan Hu, but this relies
on the news.notice file.

Which brings me to the point (at last!): my news.notice file is empty,
despite the fact that I followed instructions and added the necessary
commands to the syslog.conf file.  Is this because System V unix needs
a different format in syslog.conf, or is this, as a colleague suggests
because Solaris 2.3 syslog is broken? (Yes I'm new to Solaris too!)

If it is a problem with syslog under 2.3, can anyone tell me if 2.4 will
fix this?
If not, can anyone enlighten me of the necessary steps to get the syslog
entries actually recorded in the relevant files??

Thanks in Advance:   Marilyn.
