Which IDE/ATAPI DVD writers are known to work on Solaris (U10, SB100, ..)?

In paticlar is there any issue with the Pioneer A05 doing DVD-R/W
or the Sony DRU500A doing either DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W?

Both have been reported to work (but not yet for Solaris).

Note that you need to upgrade the Sony to FW 1.0f if you like to avoid
strange behavior with incompatible media.

So there is no dvd writer hardware that will currently work (ie write DVDs)
on Solaris? Is the problem waiting for driver support from Sun?

I did not say this, but it may be that due to incompatibilities with the
ATA HW/SW intercface if the drive and the Solaris kernel there may be
problems. Just test.....

As a Note for people who are interested in DVD+ drives:

All DVD+R/RW drives are made by Ricoh and have an ATA implementation bug.
Starting with Solaris 9 12/02, Solaris will not work anymore with these drives.
Ricoh knows about the problem but is not interested to fix it.
