unsafe map file question

Post by Jan Kuchars » Sun, 10 Sep 2000 01:34:33

Hi,

when cron runs of of my commands
in the /var/cron/log I can see:

dbm map "Alias0": unsafe map file /etc/mail/aliases

and the command is NOT executed.
I tried to fully qualify the names of all files in the command but this
did not help.
How can I rectify the problem ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Jan

It's a problem with permissions on those directories/files. Should be:

755 for /etc and /etc/mail
644 for /etc/mail/aliases

1. Unsafe Map File

Hi !

I know this issue was already put in some newsgroup, but I cannot get
any clue how to solve them:

Each time I send mail on Solaris 2.7/Sparc, mail is sent successfully,
but at the same time, I get following message:

hash map "Alias0": unsafe map file /etc/mail/aliases.db: Group writable
directory
dbm map "Alias0": unsafe map file /etc/mail/aliases

I have already checked all permissions
755=/etc
755=/etc/mail
644=/etc/mail/aliases

Even, if I change all to 777, the problem persists. First, I thought
there is no group write permission to /etc/mail directory, but if I
change it to 777 it should work. Also, aliases.db file doesn't exist,
but on 777 permission it should be able to be created.

Any hint would be appreciated.
