Does anyone have a .conf entry for the Viper 2525eS QIC-525 tape drive
(external). I am running x86 2.4 ea1. It seems to sort of work right
now, but only as a QIC-150 drive. I want to use DC6525 tapes with it,
though.

The cmtp driver in Solx86 2.4EA1 does not support the drive type
definitions the SPARC st driver has. Read the cmtp man page. It
is quite short as there is not much to describe :-(

OK, how about st.conf for it on Solaris 2.3 SPARC? I suppose I could back
up to this drive over the network then, if I could get all 525Mb to be
used.

Solaris 2.3 and better should do that. You will have to find out the
density code for 525 MB, but I believe it's the same as QIC-320 (0x11).
I don't have the man page handy, but there is an example in it, so
you should start with this. Be sure to write down the vendor and
product strings the drive returns on "probe-scsi".

The common error in adding a tape drive description to st.conf seems
to be not to pad the vendor field to 8 bytes, but with "ARCHIVE "
it comes naturally.
