X86: need .conf entry for Viper 2525eS tape

Post by Mike Batchel » Thu, 14 Jul 1994 21:03:23

Does anyone have a .conf entry for the Viper 2525eS QIC-525 tape drive
(external).  I am running x86 2.4 ea1.  It seems to sort of work right
now, but only as a QIC-150 drive.  I want to use DC6525 tapes with it,
though.

The cmtp driver in Solx86 2.4EA1 does not support the drive type
definitions the SPARC st driver has. Read the cmtp man page. It
is quite short as there is not much to describe :-(

OK, how about st.conf for it on Solaris 2.3 SPARC?  I suppose I could back
up to this drive over the network then, if I could get all 525Mb to be
used.

Solaris 2.3 and better should do that. You will have to find out the
density code for 525 MB, but I believe it's the same as QIC-320 (0x11).
I don't have the man page handy, but there is an example in it, so
you should start with this. Be sure to write down the vendor and
product strings the drive returns on "probe-scsi".

The common error in adding a tape drive description to st.conf seems
to be not to pad the vendor field to 8 bytes, but with "ARCHIVE "
it comes naturally.

1. Sony SDT-9000 tape drive - st.conf entry?

I've got a DDS3 DAT Tape drive - Sony SDT-9000 - attached to my Sun
Ultra 60.  I'm looking for the right line to add to /kernel/drv/st.conf
...

A probe-scsi-all shows:

   ok probe-scsi-all

   Target 4
     Unit 0   Removable Tape     SONY    SDT-9000        0200

   Target 0
     Unit 0   Disk     SEAGATE ST34371W SUN4.2G7462
   Target 6
Unit 0   Removable Read Only device    TOSHIBA XM5701TASUN12XCD0997

I put in the st.conf file:

tape-config-list = "SONY    SDT-9000", "Sony SDT-S9000 DDS-3",
"Sony-data";
Sony-data = 1,0x34,0,0x0439,4,0x00,0x8c,0x8c,0x8c,1;

and did a "boot -r", but it did not pick up the drive.  Does anyone know
how I can find
out the  <vid+pid> for this tape drive, as explained in the Sol2.6 man
page for "st"?

Thanks!
