Hello

If I  take backup of filesystem on solaris 2.7 , is it possiblr to restore this
file system on a HP machine running 11.0

This kind of cross compatibility is possible at all?

It all depends on what tool you use to do the backup.  cpio & tar are
the most portable of those included in the OS, but even those have
some glitches.  Your results may vary with other tools.

A couple of quick observations:

What tool is beeing used ? tar ? backup software like
networker ? The different tools has different behaviour....
So my answer here regarding tools is "Depends"

What kind of files are we talking about ?
Ascii files should not cause any problems. However
try to use a Sparc Binary on a HP....it willl fail
miserably (but that is selfexplanatory)

just my two cents ....
