x86, install fails, Adaptec 1542 driver doesn't load

Post by Neil Waybrig » Tue, 12 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I am attempting to install x86 on a 486-33 at home.  I am using the driver update 8 boot
disks.  As the system boots I see the following message:
"Found Adaptec 1540 compatable host adapter with base address of 330.
Failed to initialize host adapter."

I have carefully set the adapter to the settings on page 45 of the Device Configuration
Guide without any luck.  The original install disk and the DU7 disks give the same results.

The system runs LINUX, Win95 and NT fine.  The termination appears to be ok (though I
haven't taken then out and tested them independently).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.  Please mail response because I will be out of town for
a few days.

Thanks.....
Neil

Did you set IRQ somewhere between 9-15?
(Mine is 11).

Did you set DMA channel to 6. I think Sol 2.4 for x86 supports only 6.

Quote:>I am pretty much in the same boat -- I have followed instructions on page 45

I have an Adaptes 2742T and have been running DU7.  I installed DU8 last night
and teh system failed to re-boot.  I had to boot on the CD rom and back out DU8
to get the system back up.

Any ideas.
