Post by techsupp.. » Wed, 08 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hello im a new system administrator using Solaris 2.5

im not very good at UNIX but learning very fast, and i was wondering
if someone could lend me a small hand

when i use the adduser command everything works fine except the users
do not get a mail directory, is there a variable that i am missing???

is it possible to manually give them a mail directory??? and if so
what permissions should i give them (exactly how to go about it, im SO
green you now)

they seem to send messages fine but cannot recieve any?? the daemon
say's that there is no such file or directory /var/mail/user
thier directory's are in /home/customer/user

thank you all very very much

adduser does not add mail directories (which are actually files). The
daemon, when receiving mail will place it in a /var/mail directory or
sometimes (on other systems) /var/spool/mail. These files are autocreated
as mail comes in. Make sure that the directories r/w privleges are set
correctly so that the files can be created. The rights on the user's mail
files will automatically be set.
