I would like to report 2 problems:cdrecord hang problem and cdrw not
able to set the speed. I am using S9 x86 12/02

My IDEs devices:

Problems:
I. CDRECORD

When I am trying to write a CD at speed 1 or 4 everytime at the end of
the burning process, when the process writes fixating ... the OS hangs.

the command:
/opt/sfw/bin/cdrecord dev=0,1,0 speed=4 /path/to/isofile -v

no core dumps, no kernel panic nothing. Just the entire box is hanged.

Any ideas ? I can simulate this. It hangs everytime .

II.

When I am trying to burn via cdrw like:

cdrw -i -d c0t1d0s2 -p 4

# cdrw -i -p 4 -d c0t1d0s2 ./file.iso
Initializing device...done.
Unable to set speed.

everytime I get can't get the speed set. Even "-p 1" does not work. I
then switched to:

cdrw -i -d c0t1d0s2 /path/to/isofile
Everything goes fine but at dmesg I have some messages:

Looks like you did not read the cdrecord documentation and did not stop vold.

I cannot recommend cdrw, use cdrecord.

Good morning,

What do you mean. What is outdated ? the version of cdrecord or the docs

Well, vold does not work. I can not even run cdrecord -scanbus if the
vold is running. I bet you know this better than me. So I have no vold
running.

Do you want me to Copy the process list table ?

GERMAN only - The English part it is shorter than german explanations.
Might be useful to add good english explanations if you want your
software be documented.

So do I need to upgrade a better version of cdrecord ?
If this version broken or ?

thank you,
stefan

It is just the obvious answer: cdrecord-1.9

Do you have any other process running that tries to access the drive?
You may easily verify this by using:

        cdrecord -raw96r ...

because in RAW mode, the CD does not become partially accessible before the
writing is completely finished.

The English text is the same length as the German and contains the same content!

If you pay me 100000 $ per year, I might start to support older versions too...
1.9 is _two_ major releases in the past....

Hi,

True, I will use the latest version ASAP. I will let you know what's up.
I will let Sun know about Freeware that needs to include a newer version
of cdrecord. I used cdrecord with no problems: SPARC S8,S9. X86 S8.
This is the first time something like this happens.

So once again, I have to install a newer version and retest.

I will double check that too. No other process was running.

Yes my mistake. I am just reading.

thanks a lot
stefan

You've got SCSI-errors which most often pop up when cabling is loose
or of poor quality.  It could also be a microcode issue with the plextor.
Anyway, newer versions might have a fix or a workaroud implemented.

Hi,

I've updated the cdrecord to 2.0. Here are the results.

Quote:

> It is just the obvious answer: cdrecord-1.9

I can confirm on my box the new cdrecord works fine.

cdrecord dev=0,1,0 speed=4 /file/to/file.iso -v
Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.0 (i386-pc-solaris2.6) Copyright (C) 1995-2002

Updating to 2.0 solved the problem. I noticed Sun about this.

Many thanks indeed,
stefan

1. crypt_gensalt in S9 12/02 onwards

Hi all,

crypt_gensalt is a function new with Solaris 9 12/02, but
it's not defined <crypt.h>, nor anywhere else reasonable.
Is this deliberate, or a bug?  I suspect the latter, as the
crypt_gensalt man page says to include <crypt.h>.
