Problems using f2c on Solaris 2.1...

Post by ch.. » Sun, 30 May 1993 02:34:38

I am currently trying to use the fortran to C translator, f2c on a
SPARCclassic  running Solaris 2.1. Using gcc, it compiles fine, and
translates fortran source code to C source code OK. But when I try to
use gcc to compile the resulting C code I get the following error

        gcc -lF77 -lI77 -lm <filename>.c

ld: fatal error, libF77.a unknown type, cannot be processed by elf(3E)
libraries.

I'm not very experienced in fortran, or using libraries. Anybody any
idea whats wrong? All replies appreciated...thanx in advance.

1. Problems using f2c on Solaris 2.1....

I am currently trying to use the fortran to C translator, f2c, on
a SPARCClassic running Solaris 2.1. Using gcc it compiles OK. It
also translates fortran code to C code OK. However, when I use gcc
to compile the resulting C code I got the following error.

        gcc -lF77 -lI77 -lm -lc <filename>.c

ld: fatas.
or something like that. I have since gotten the source code for libF77 and
libI77, and while it compiles OK, and is "ar"ed OK, the make attempts
to do a ranlib on the resulting .a file.....but ranlib isn't in Solaris 2.1.
I'm not experienced in mainpulating libraries, but if I'm not mistaken,
ranlib in SunOS 4.1.x was not essential...it only speeded things up.
(I can just hear a chorus of "**WRONG**" already <grin>). However, if
I attempt to use the files as libs, in say /usr/lib/ all I get is a string
of complaints about undefined symbols such as do_fio, sin, s_rsle etc.
Is there anything I can do?? Or is this something to do with Solaris?
I don't entirely know what I'm doing, so please forgive the way this
is written...I'm not even sure what to ask. Anyone any ideas?
All replies appreciated...thanx in advance. If anyone reading this
replies, I would be most grateful if they could use the E-Mail address
