Sun Workshop Visual GUI Builder Problem

Sun Workshop Visual GUI Builder Problem

Post by Saurabh Ja » Wed, 10 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

I have been using Sun Workshop Visual 2.0 (BTW is this an OEMed X-Designer?)
and am trying to apply a pixmap to a label widget.

Workshop visual crashes in my attempt to do so. Here is what I do:
1. Bring up the "Display" page of the label's resources
2. Click on "Pixmap" to bring up the Pixmap selector
3. Type in the name I want to give to my Pixmap object
4. Click on "Edit.." This crashes Viusual!

the following error mesg appears :

--
visu : X Error
Design saved to /net/eisone/usr12/home/jang/XD/TrackEm/TrackEm.xd.crash

X Error of failed request:  BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)
Major opcode of failed request:  28 (X_GrabButton)
Serial number of failed request:  8956
Current serial number in output stream:  8962
---------

As per the docs after step 4, I should have been placed into the
Pixmap Editor, which would allow me to associate a .xpm file with
the previously named pixmap object.

So does anyone here have any idea of what I am doing wrong that is
causing Workshop Visual to crash?

Thanks in advance!

Saurabh

Sun Workshop Visual GUI Builder Problem

Post by Saurabh Ja » Thu, 11 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hi All,

It seems that the problem is with the interaction between my window manager
(fvwm95) and visu.  I use fvwm95 instead of the CDE environment normally, and
when I tried to replicate the bug under CDE, everything worked just fine!

The error message from visu was about the X_GrabButton X request failing.
Perhaps I can tweak my fvwm95 config files to get rif of my problem, or
failing that use CDE.

1. GUI GUI builders? (Was: Re: GTK builder?)

[note: added crosspost, trim as appropriate]

 | Well, there are actually a couple in the works, but none of them are
 | totally functional right now. GUBI
 | (http://www.SoftHome.net/pub/users/timj/gubi/index.htm) was the first one,
 | but development has ceased on it, and it's been rendered fairly useless
 | by the latest versions of GTK. GLE
 | (http://www.SoftHome.net/pub/users/timj/gle/index.htm) is the followup
 | to GUBI, but at the moment it's still very alpha... The latest addition to
 | these is GLADE (http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/~damon/builder/) - this one
 | isn't at the moment useful for building apps, but it's got a *lot* of
 | potential - sorta looks like VB I guess... Hope this helps...
 +----

A meaningful GUI target has been a GNU/Linux weakness for quite
some time, I hope GTK 1.0 can change that.  GUI builders based
on GTK have a lot of potential for pumping up the next jump in
popularity!

Are there GUI builders available for FreeTIF?  Squeak?  Python?
