font display problem with DecWindows appl. on SUN

Post by Bart Selder » Wed, 01 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I tried to run a DecWindows application (VMS 5.5) remote on my SUN
workstation (Solaris  2.4).

When I run this application I got a font error, so I took the
DECwindows_on_X11R4_font.alias and installed it on my SUN.

My application runs now, but it looks terrible; I couldn't read any text.
Therefore I looked which font was used. One of the fonts, which was used
by this application, was

     -dec-terminal-bold-r-normal-14-100-100-C-8-iso8859-1

I displayed this font using the alias file with xfd, but the characters
are unreadable. I tried several other mappings, but nothing works. The
character set was totally unreadable.

QUESTION:

Who can give me any suggestion what to do to make this working?

Thanks,

Wilhelm Wenzel

Fonts are distributed in Binary Distribution Format (bdf) in X11R4 and need
to be compiled for a a given server.  Fonts are ditributed in Portable
Compiled Format (pcf) in X11R5 and do not need to be compiled.

1. Fonts to correctly display Sun's Answerbook

Hello,

I'm trying to display a Sun answerbook on an Indy.  I get the complaint
"XView warning: Cannot load font set '-b&h-lucida-medium-r-normal-sans-
*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*' (Font package)".  I can get it to run if I use a
"-fn" paramater of either fixed or courier, but it looks poor and
some of the characters overwrite each other on the viewer.

So, whats the best way to handle this - move fonts to the indy or
specify a better font?  If I need to move the fonts, how do I do this?
Can I move the fonts directly from the Sun?

Much thanks for any assistance.
