IMHO the book they gave you for class is the best material. Everything
in the test is in that book. Some of it even word-for-word. I passed
pretty easily after studying only that material, though I did study it
pretty hard, singling out all the unfamilar stuff and memorizing it.

Some good books other than the actual courseware is Sysadmin I and II from
fatbrain.com but there not cheap.

For the Network test "Solaris 7 TCP/IP and Data Communications
Administrators Guide" and "Solaris 7 Mail Administrators guide" from
fatbrain.com should "help" with the test,
but nothing beats the actual courseware.

Solaris 2.6 Administrator Certification Training Guide, Part I
MacMillan Technical Publishing
website http://www.macmillantech.com
ISBN   1.57870-085.X
by Bill Calkins
seems a good book to me. it comes with a cd full of training questions, it
costs around $40.

Checkout Solaris 2.6 Administrator Certification Guide- Part 1 and Part 2 (just
came out) by Bill Calkins.  Also try www.learnsolaris.com for a bunch of
example test  questions for exam 1 and 2 (solaris 2.6 and 7).

Cleared my Solaris 2.6 Part I exam with a score
of 850. The exam is really damn easy. I have
got the Sun Official Curriculum books which are
more than enough to get you through. And if you
learn the whole book with each and every word in
it, you can surely score 1000 !! Believe me, but
its true !! Also go through CramSession, but mind
you, there are some mistakes in the Cramsession.
Overall the exam is a pure novice level exam !!!
Also just learn the BASIC switches of all the
commands. Don't go too deep into switches. If you
need any help on exam, just mail me.

Solaris Adm I and II exam

Congratulations on passing Part I. I agree that it's pretty easy. And I
think anyone that is familiar with SVR4 can pass it with little effort.

As the author of the Solaris cramsessions, I would be interested in
knowing what you think is incorrect. I have tried to keep them as
accurate as possible, but mistakes are a part of life.

The Solaris cramsessions are an abrigded version of a longer study guide
that has recently been moved to www.unixcert.net and has been used by
dozens to pass the certification exams.

Thanks in advance for any feeback & good luck with Part II.

Solaris Adm I and II exam

Certification exams are all fine and good for getting your resume
noticed but I'd caution people that the amount of material you really
need to know to be a good sysadmin can't be covered by a test.
Furthermore, if you promote yourself as an expert because you've gained
certification, you better be ready to back it up if you are interviewing
for anything more that a junior level job.

I've interviewed lots of people for system admin positions that had
their certs and less than a quarter of them actually knew anything about
it.

Remember, any monkey can be trained to type a command but only smart,
evolved apes can actually write the command.
